1 IN 7 UTAH KIDS FACE SEXUAL ABUSE.
SUPPORT VICTIMS, NOT PERPETRATORS!
DEMAND STUART ADAMS RESIGNATION!

Utah families deserve leaders who protect children, not those who bend laws for personal gain. Utah Senate President Stuart Adams is facing calls to resign after using his political influence to support a change in state law that directly impacted the criminal case of his 18-year-old step-grandchild, who was charged with multiple counts of child rape and sodomy against a 13-year-old.

Instead of standing with victims and protecting Utah’s most vulnerable, Adams chose to prioritize his family’s legal troubles. Working with Sen. Kirk Cullimore, Adams pushed for a law that allows prosecutors to treat 18-year-olds accused of having sex with 13-year-olds as juveniles if they’re still in high school, weakening protections for children across Utah.

This is not the first time Adams’ political power has overlapped with his personal interests, but it must be the last. Our children deserve better.

Join us in demanding accountability. Sign the petition today to call for the resignation of Stuart Adams and to send a clear message: Utah will not tolerate leaders who protect predators over children.

Unrefuted Facts:

1. On April 18, 2023, Adams' granddaughter was charged with multiple felony counts related to the sexual abuse of a minor, despite her being 18 and enrolled in high school at the time.

2. On February 8, 2024, Senate Bill 213 was introduced, modifying penalties for offenses involving adolescents, which notably benefitted Adams' granddaughter by reducing her charges and sentencing.

3. The legislation was passed on February 28, 2024, and signed into law on March 19, 2024, shortly after Adams' involvement, as confirmed by public statements and legislative records.

4. Adams provided a private character support letter for his granddaughter on September 18, 2024, and appeared to influence legislative action that reduced her legal consequences.

5. Adams publicly claimed he did not request or intervene in the drafting of Senate Bill 213; however, reports indicate he discussed his granddaughter's case with the bill sponsor, influencing the legislation.

Legal and Ethical Violations:

1. Under Utah Code § 67-16-4(1)(c), using one's official position to secure privileges or exemptions for personal family benefit is unlawful misconduct.

2. Adams' actions are a willful misuse of his official authority to benefit a family member, undermining public trust and violating state laws.

Legislative Duty:

As a legislator, you have a duty under the Utah Constitution Article VI, Sections 17-19, to hold our elected accountable. Stuart Adams' actions are grounds for impeachment when a public official commits serious misconduct or malfeasance. Failure to do so, is a violation of your oath for which you swore to uphold.

Immediate Demands

1. We call for Stuart Adams to resign immediately from his position as Senate President.

2. Should he refuse, we urge the House of Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings, as required by the Utah Constitution, with a two-thirds vote to convene the impeachment trial.

3. Upon impeachment by the House of Representatives, shall convene for the purpose of trying the impeachment.

4. Additionally, we demand that the policies and procedures governing legislation be revised to ensure full transparency, including clear records of who initiated a bill, which lobbyists or individuals requested its drafting, and any other relevant influence or input involved in the legislative process.

The integrity of our constitutional republic process depends on holding public officials accountable for breaches of trust. Adams' actions have eroded public confidence and represent a blatant abuse of power. The victims of these injustices deserve Justice and transparency.

We stand united in demanding that responsible elected officials uphold their sworn duties and act swiftly to restore integrity and trust within our government.

No one—no one—is above the law. Not even a Senate President.

Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

Note: Upon completion of this form, your name will be added to the Petition to Demand the Resignation of Senate President Stuart Adams and an email will be automatically generated to all legislators urging them to take immediate action for Adams' malfeasance in office if he refuses.
